As the owner of Peak Perfection, I've spent years exploring every corner of the Canadian Rockies. I love Banff, Moraine Lake, and the Icefields Parkway as much as anyone, but let's be real—those spots get crowded. So, when friends or family visit, I often steer them toward something a little quieter but just as breathtaking: Kootenay National Park. It’s close, gorgeous, and still feels like a secret.

Why Choose Kootenay?
Honestly, I created this tour because Kootenay deserves more love. You don't need hours in the car or a sunrise alarm to get a great spot here. Just a short drive from Banff, this park gives you all the views without fighting for parking spots.
Marble Canyon: A Personal Favourite
We start with Marble Canyon—a stunning but easy walk that always impresses, even after countless visits. The bridges zigzag across a deep limestone canyon, letting you look straight down at powerful waterfalls and crystal-clear streams. It’s like Johnston Canyon, minus the crowds and tour buses.
Stanley Glacier: An Underrated Gem
Next up is Stanley Glacier—this hike is honestly one of the best bang-for-your-buck experiences out there. You’ll wind through meadows and forest until the views open up to reveal glaciers, waterfalls, and dramatic mountain peaks. It's a trail I never get tired of, and the fact it's not jam-packed like hikes closer to Banff makes it even better.
Storm Mountain Lodge: Cozy and Delicious
After a solid day outdoors, there’s no place I'd rather relax than Storm Mountain Lodge. This place has authentic charm—think log cabins, crackling fires, and a dining room with a genuinely welcoming vibe. Their food? Phenomenal. Seriously, whether you pick their famous bison burger or the wild mushroom ravioli, you'll leave happy.
Make It a Full Day, No Hassle
Part of what makes Peak Perfection special is we handle all the details—pick-up, lunch, snacks, drinks, and drop-off at your accommodation in Banff, Canmore, or Lake Louise.
After our adventure, I'm always happy to drop you back at your place or recommend a spot for dinner if you’re still feeling energized. If you want to add an extra layer of relaxation, Radium Hot Springs is just a bit further down the road. Soak your tired legs in the hot springs and maybe even stay overnight—turning a great day into a perfect weekend getaway.
Kootenay might not have the instant name recognition of Banff or Lake Louise, but trust me, it deserves a place on your Rockies bucket list. I'd love to personally show you why it's one of my favourite places to unwind, recharge, and truly experience the mountains away from the usual crowds.
